Superficial spreading melanoma

Overview

A form of melanoma that usually occurs on sun damaged skin. The lesion tends to grow slowly

Symptoms

* Skin lesion * Dark flat skin lesion * Discolored, raised skin lesion * Asymmetrical skin lesion * Skin lesion with irregular border

Diagnosis

* Colorectal Cancer Tests * Fecal Occult Bleeding Tests

Treatment

Treatment is by excisional biopsy, wide local excision and possibly sentinel node biopsy. Spread of disease to local lymph nodes or distant sites (typically brain, bone, skin and lung) marks a decidedly poor prognosis.
