Amelogenesis imperfecta pigmented hypomaturation type

Overview

Amelogenesis imperfecta is an inherited tooth development disorder characterized by tooth enamel defects. The pigmented hypomaturation type is characterized by fragile tooth enamel which tends to be soft and rough and is usually a creamy to yellow/brown color. 

Symptoms

  • Yellow-brown teeth
  • Cream-colored teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Soft tooth enamel
  • Rough teeth
  • Shiny appearing teeth
  • Sensitive teeth

Causes

  • Excessive coffee
  • Certain foods
  • Smoking
  • Normal aging
  • Tooth abscess
  • Dead tooth (see Dental symptoms) - the tooth looks gray
  • Internal resorption
