Dystonia 12

Overview

A very rare syndrome involving the early start of symptoms of dystonia and parkinsonism. The onset of the symptoms usually occurs suddenly over weeks or even hours and then progresses slowly.

Synonims: Rapid-onset dystonia-parkinsonism, DYT 12, RDB.

• Dystonia

• Muscle cramping

• Muscle spasms

• Unsteady walk

• Dysarthria

• Dysphagia

• Bradykinesia

• Drooling

• Involuntary limb movements

• Speech problems

 

Causes

Dystonia is a late sign of this disorder, which is marked by slowly progressive dementia. The patient typically displays decreased attention span, amnesia, agitation, an inability to carry out activities of daily living, dysarthria, and emotional lability.
