(a) addressing the current state of
knowledge, (b) identifying emerging issues or continuing gaps in
knowledge, and (c) exploring future opportunities for research. A
research agenda developed from this workshop would be extremely
valuable (1) to better understand how adverse events/experiences in the
preconception period influences the gamete, embryo, fetus and
offspring; (2) to identify research that can improve the diagnosis,
prevention, and treatment of conditions that compromise reproductive
health and preconception care; and (3) to develop recommendations and
implementation strategies for preconception care that are designed to
promote healthy reproduction and development for children and adults.
