Meadows syndrome
Overview
Meadows syndrome: A rare condition that affects pregnant women during the last trimester or within two months after birth. It is characterized by breathing difficult, chest pain, congestive heart failure, heart rhythm abnormalities, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal symptoms and embolisms.
Symptoms
* Cough * Paroxysmal breathing difficulty at night * Coughing up blood * Chest pain * Gastrointestinal symptoms * Nausea * Vomiting * Cerebral embolism * Paralysis of one side of body * Pulmonary embolism * Congestive heart failure symptoms * Diastolic hypertension * Alternating strong and weak pulse * Gallop rhythm * Cyanosis * Enlarged liver * Abnormal fundus oculi
Causes
* Alternating strong and weak pulse * Chest pain * Congestive heart failure symptoms * Cough * Coughing up blood * Cyanosis * Enlarged liver * Gastrointestinal symptoms * Nausea * Pulmonary embolism * Vomiting
Prognosis
Prognosis of Meadows syndrome: syndrome may recur and about two thirds make a full recovery
