Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome
Overview
Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome is a rare complication of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) named after the two physicians, Fitz-Hugh and Curtis who first reported this condition in 1934 and 1930 respectively.
Diagnosis
FHC is caused by infection with C trachomatis or N gonorrhoeae
Prognosis
Prognosis is generally as for PID. There may be no symptoms of Fitz-Hugh Curtis syndrome and it is found incidentally at operation at a later date. It may also be found as an incidental finding when investigating infertility and, as such, it may also indicate tubal damage
Treatment
Treatment involves diagnosing and treating the underlying cause correctly. The adhesions can be cut laparoscopically
