Early-onset ataxia with oculomotor apraxia and hypoalbuminemia

Overview

A nerve disorder which affects the motor nerves and results in movement problems which includes the eyes.

Symptoms

* Abnormal gait * Ataxia * Incoordination * Flared eyebrows * Neurological functional anomalies * Dysarthria * Limb dysmetria * Difficulty moving eyes * Distal muscle weakness * Distal muscle wasting

Diagnosis

Routine tests include a CBC, urinalysis, 24-hr urine protein, chemistry panel, protein electrophoresis, sedimentation rate, a chest x-ray, and EKG. Further considerations include renal function tests, liver and renal biopsy, a CT scan of the abdomen, and consultation with a nephrologist and a hepatologist.
