The 2008 Discussions will address the regulatory roles of calmodulin in ion channel function with a focus on mechanisms of modulation, molecular determinants of protein interactions, structural principles of signaling complex organization, and the physiological consequences of signal transduction events.
Because ion channels in situ can be studied directly and quantitatively at the molecular level with the patch clamp technique, they provide the most compelling data for discriminating between competing hypotheses.
