Chondrocalcinosis 2
Overview
A very rare genetic disorder characterized by progressive osteoarthritis. Joint damage is caused by deposits of crystals containing calcium.

Causes
Although the exact cause of primary gout remains unknown, it appears to be linked to a genetic defect in purine metabolism, which causes elevated blood levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia) due to overproduction of uric acid, retention of uric acid, or both.
Diagnosis
Radiography has a large role to play in the diagnosis of chondrocalcinosis with radiographs, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasound and nuclear medicine all having a part. [2] CT scans and MRIs show calcific masses (usually within the ligamentum flavum or joint capsule) however radiography is more successful.
