Chris’s 2K fun run for cancer charity

A testicular cancer survivor from Beverley has organised a charity fun run to raise awareness of the condition.

Chris Robson, 28, of Butt Lane, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in June last year and had surgery to remove a testicle before undergoing chemotherapy.

He has now been given the all-clear and has regular check-ups.

After returning to work as a security guard at Morrisons in Beverley in November last year, Chris decided he wanted to raise awareness and money for research into testicular cancer.

Now, he has organised a 2km charity fun run, which will take place at Beverley Leisure Complex on July 5, and hopes to raise £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.

It is hoped up to 250 men, women and children will take part in the event, which has also received the backing of Hull City goalkeeper and fellow testicular cancer survivor Matt Duke.

Chris said: “Prior to my diagnosis I was unaware of this disease and ignorant of its immense implications.

“This is what inspired me to organise a fun run.

“I want it to be a family day and I can’t wait.

“People can wear fancy dress if they want to – I’ll be dressed as Batman.”

Chris recalled the moment he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

“It came as a huge shock to discover I actually had cancer,” he said.

“At 27 years old and having just started a new relationship it was the last thing I wanted to hear.

“They operated to remove my testicle and I then began a course of chemotherapy.

“The whole episode was dealt with very quickly.”

Mr Duke sent his best wishes to the fun run participants.

He said: “I wish the best of luck to everyone running in the 2km run on Sunday, July 5 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

“It’s a fantastic way to raise awareness for such an important cause and from a personal point of view, having suffered from testicular cancer myself, everyone’s efforts are hugely appreciated.

The fun run is open to men, women and children, and participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration packs can be collected from Beverley Leisure Complex, in Flemingate.

Registration is free and all participants will be given a sponsor form.
