Ballymahon fundraiser set to showcase top local music

Skelly’s Bar in Ballymahon is to play host to a special fundraising night in aid of the Friedeichs Ataxia Society of Ireland on Friday, June 13 next with a host of excellent local acts performing on the occasion.

Friedeichs Ataxia is a rare genetic and progressive disorder of the central nervous system which usually manifests itself in children between the ages of six and sixteen years of age. Local lads Michael Delaney and Barney Mulvihill are competing in this year’s Athlone Triathlon (1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run) and have chosen the Friedeichs Ataxia Society of Ireland to be the beneficiary of all funds raised.

The pair hope to raise funds while also increasing awareness of this rare condition. The best of local musical talent has given up their time to play including: Lilac Blues (as seen on the All Ireland Talent show), Veronica Moran (recent winner of Longford’s got talent), US folk artist Felix Sonnyboy Wilson and Arrow in the Sky from Mullingar as well as local DJs.

There will also be excellent spot prizes on the night sponsored by local businesses. Entry to the event is free with donations accepted on the night. Anyone who can’t make the event but would like to help the fund raiser can do so online at www.barmicktri09.com. Also, anyone wishing to find out more about Friedeichs Ataxia and its condition can log onto www.ataxia.ie. All support will be greatly appreciated.
